How I Tackle My Realities With Poetry

I agree in earnest, that in life, the hardest thing to face is reality. In our life adventures, we tend to face so many realities that aren’t so pleasant

while some of us are willing to deal with it the way it comes, others are not. We rather reframe, and often times get delusional just to avoid dealing with these unpleasant realities. I can relate with both scenarios, as a matter of fact I’ve lived both ways.

When reality struck, which in many case is not fun to deal with, we should however endeavor to charge ourselves to rise to the occasion by facing it. Some of these realities could be breakups, promotions, sickness, death, etc. Ignoring it is useless. While ignoring and perhaps sugarcoating it seems to blind us from the real world, it is a short term escape route to a long term complexity. The negative effect ignoring our realities does to us and others cannot be overemphasized. In fact, the earlier we are determined to face reality, the better favor we do for ourselves and others.

Even if the realities are pleasant, dealing with it still poses some sort of challenges. Yes, there are fortunate incidence that appears too good to be true. Imagine yourself being caught up in some exciting moments and you echo lines like: ‘wow! I can’t believe this, is this happening to me?’ We often find ourselves in pleasant moments that are so uplifting in every sense that we even tend to ask to be ‘pinched’ just to be sure we aren’t dreaming.

There are good tidings that completely overwhelm us, and we find ourselves having difficult in growing out of the excitement of our newly found status. We are torn between the status quo and our new found world especially if it’s something we never imagined. To deal with stuffs of sort, we’ll need to first be able to live in the real world, accept the realities and tackle it accordingly. These are real challenges different people face every day irrespective of its pleasant nature. Make no mistake; even good fortune can become glaring misfortune if not handled efficiently.

In facing reality, especially unpleasant, different people employ different measures. How this works for us may depend on our individual difference and perhaps the nature of reality being faced. But however the measure, what we cannot completely ignore is the place for poetry in those difficult moments. Its relief however may seem temporary, but its effects are by far overwhelming especially to those who come to accept its potency: because nothing does better in aligning in harmony your spirit, soul and body which are the three determining force in your quest to face reality. The effect of such synergy is irrefutable.

I believe that poetry has the ability to set in motion some of the fundamental changes in human nature it has a potent ability to change minds and change lives, all for the better. There is no doubt that a few encouraging words have done wonders for those who spent most of their life struggling to find happiness, love, and peace of mind.

There are those moments when we seemed lost trying to understand certain things about ourselves, other people and about life in general, moments that is characterized by chaos, uncertainty and denial, moments where we seek serenity in the midst of our travails. As a result, we have been in uttermost search of a healing for our body, peace for our spirit and revival for our soul.

For me, I found in poetry words that spoke directly to my soul. Poetry became an important version of my healing process because it took those emotions and feelings that could not be expressed any other way and expressed them with imagery: this imagery can say many different things to many different people, but once the word has gone out, it will stay with you like a seed buried to the ground.

Poetry is the truest expression of our deepest emotion, one that mere words alone cannot portray.  Good poetry can stir up emotions, it has the power to make us all better people, and better cope with reality, either if we chose to write it or spend time reading/listening to it.

A great poem allows you to feel the earth move. Healing happens as we shed our souls to the paper, healing happens as we read the words out loud to ourselves in the silence of our soul and the ointment and balm are spread as our burden hearted souls and hearts hear us read.

Nothing will ever change the joy and happiness, amongst other things that poetry has brought to live, to this world. Poems that were and would still be put down by men for the reviving of our soul and embellishment of our spirit and body should always be appreciated. It is a life changer, and a tool for success in understanding how to deal with travails and sometimes have the very antidote in reconciling us with God, with ourselves and with creation. Poetry helps us to be able to express our feelings on anything, including ourselves. No matter how much the world changes, it will never change the power of poetry.

Over time, I’ll share few poems I find very in-depth and very revealing. Some of which I authored and some from other authors. While the ones I’ll post here will be limited to authors whose copyright permit I’d be able to secure, I encourage you therefore to read as many as you can lay your sight on

It will be more meaningful and purposeful to read/listen to poetry with great in-depth because it’s true meanings are concealed and not just for the eyes, sometimes you’ll need to just look to the skies, in the silence of your soul, in a deep breath with your eyes closed to the physical. Only then will you realized the force inherent in poetry.

The beauty in healing that poetry offers inspires and elates me each and every day.
