Easter, being a festival celebrated annually in
commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ is no doubt one of the most
important feasts of the Christian year. It is the aftermath of the story of the
fall. It outlined God’s commitment in reconciling with man (His most complex creature) at a very high cost. Easter is symbolic for Christ’s victory over death. To the followers of Christ,
it also symbolizes their participation in His death and rebirth to a new life thereafter.
Yes, what easter simply portrays is that Christ is alive
today, and many of the saints have been resurrected. The festival however seeks
to assure us that all men will enjoy a literal resurrection of the earthly body
with the spirit.
It is important therefore to note that Christ our Savior had
a consuming desire to do His Father’s will and a great love for His Father’s children,
whose redemption He secured. Suffice to say then that Jesus not only atoned
for Adam’s transgression but for the sins of all mankind. Howbeit, we must
always bear in mind that redemption from individual sins depends upon
individual effort.
The fall thus provided a means whereby mankind can choose
between good and evil and thus prepare for life after death. What we do here,
then, determines to a considerable extent what we will be doing in the life
after death. Sad to note also, that despite this great sacrifice, man still
fall daily... So at this point, easter
celebration is a reminder that the opportunity still exists to be reconciled to
God at-least for the time being.
In as much as it makes us to understand that there is no
price too high to pay for peace, no atrocity is too much to forgive and no one
is too condemned to be forgiven. Easter
time is indeed a forceful reminder that the human spirit cannot be confined. It
does not deny the reality of death, but it offers us an assurance that God has
preserved life beyond the grave.
Dear readers like many of you, I am most grateful for the
privilege to be a partaker of this symbolic moment, the knowledge of the fact
that I was given an opportunity to be reconciled with my maker is noteworthy of
all, and I am confident that the answers to many of today’s pressing issues bedeviling
our nation can be found in the message Easter portrays: This portrait however,
is nothing other than of LOVE AND FORGIVENESS.
Knowing that we all have one common enemy, it’s a time when we should feel challenged to unite in harmony at all cost, a time to learn to know ourselves and respect our differences: a time to acknowledge that irrespective of religious difference, we all serve a Heavenly Father whom we unite with in prayer and faith and our will to do good. It is also a time to be cautious and guided in our utterances while we fashion a genuine path for peace and a great future with shared aspirations.
Actualizing our vision for peace, however, is not just a
matter of rhetoric’s. It’s a time above all else to keep ourselves clean in
mind and clean in habits in whatever platform we shall have responsibilities
entrusted on us.
Now is the time for us to plan good strong foundation for
peace and harmony, organize our destiny and set high standards thereby
solidifying our determination to be united than ever in ensuring a great nation
not just for our children, but for the period of our lives which will be
beautiful and rewarding... until our soul is united with the zeal to do good,
pursue peace instead of discord only then would we recognize the fact that our
spirit cannot be confined.
Finally, as we celebrate Easter, let us not forget to reflect
the love and forgiveness that is embodied in this season… We must however not
hesitate to choose that resolve which will bring us joy in both our individual
life, national life and in the eternities to come, knowing fully well that good
will always triumph over evil, and light over darkness.
Cheers!!
